When you open Windows Media Player, the sample playlist will probably open and start playing the first selection, which is Like Humans Do by David Byrne at the time of this writing. The display area shows the default visualization. Making Movies New for Windows XP One of the new programs that come with Windows XP is Windows Movie Maker, a tool that helps you capture audio and video source material. After the source material is captured, you can use Windows Movie Maker to edit and arrange your clips to create movies. With Windows Movie Maker, you can download video clips from your digital video camera or import video clips from other sources, and then edit them to create your own movie. You can add music and narration to your video and even insert still photos or title slides. When your movie masterpiece is complete, you can burn it to a CD, send it via e-mail, or publish it on the Web. To start Windows Movie Maker, on the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Movie Maker. 2. Choose New Connection from the File menu. When the New Connection Wizard appears, click Next. 3. On the Network Connection Type page, choose Connect To The Network At My Workplace (Windows XP) or Connect To A Private Network Through The Internet (Windows 2000), and then click Next. 4. On the Network Connection page, choose Virtual Private Network Connection and then click Next. (This page doesn t appear in Windows 2000.) 5. On the Connection Name page, type the name for the connection and then click Next. (This page doesn t appear in Windows 2000.) 6. On the Public Network page, choose whether to establish a dial-up Internet connection before using the VPN connection and then click Next. (This page doesn t appear in Windows 2000.)

7. On the VPN Server Selection page (Windows XP) or Destination Address page (Windows 2000), type the Internet-accessible IP address of the Windows Small Business Server computer and then click Next. 8. On the Connection Availability page, choose whether to allow other users access to the VPN connection and then click Next. Type a name for the connection (if creating a connection in Windows 2000) and then click Finish to complete the wizard. The Connect dialog box appears. 9. In the Connect dialog box, click Properties. 10. Click the Networking tab (Figure 15-17) and choose L2TP IPSec VPN (Windows XP) or Layer-2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) (Windows 2000) from the Type Of VPN box.

11. Click the Security tab, choose Advanced, and then click Settings. The Advanced Security Settings dialog box appears. 12. Choose Use Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), select Smart Card Or Other Certificate, as shown in Figure 15-18, and then click Properties. The Smart Card Or Other Certificate Properties dialog box appears.

3. If you currently see a menu bar at the top of the Windows Media Player window, click the Auto hide menu bar button. The window now looks like this:

Choose Use A Certificate On This Computer, as shown in Figure 15-19, select Validate Server Certificate, and then select the name of the Windows Small Business Server computer in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities section of the dialog box. Click OK when you re finished. Click OK, and then click OK again. The VPN connection is then established.

If you click the Auto hide menu bar button while Windows Media Player is in full mode, nothing appears to change except the look of the button. When you restore the window to a smaller size, however, the menu bar will be hidden.

Once you ve got L2TP VPN connections working, automate the process of creating L2TP VPN connections for clients using the Connection Manager Administration Kit, which can be installed using the Windows Component Wizard, accessible from Add Or Remove Programs.
