5. Click the Advanced tab. In the Spool Folder text box, type the location in which you want to store the spool folder. Make sure the drive is big enough to hold all the documents in the print queue. If you choose to enable the holding of printed documents, the drive needs to be big enough to archive all print jobs. 6. Select the check boxes next to the events to be logged. 7. To be notified of errors while printing remote documents, select Beep On Errors Of Remote Documents. Windows XP clients display an unobtrusive balloon tip in the System Tray for 10 seconds (or until clicked) when a document has finished printing. To notify earlier clients when a document has finished printing, select Notify When Remote Documents Are Printed. To display a notification message on the computer the document was printed on (even if the user who printed it is currently logged on elsewhere), select Notify Computer, Not User, When Remote Documents Are Printed. Tip

In this exercise, you will add people to your Windows Messenger Contact list using their email addresses. There are no practice files for this exercise. You must have an active Internet connection and have configured Windows Messenger to complete this exercise. In addition, you need to know the address of at least one other person who has a Passport account. Tip You can create a Hotmail or Passport account to practice with if you don't have another person's account handy. Follow these steps: 1. Log on to Windows, if you have not already done so. 2. The Notify When Remote Documents Are Printed feature can be useful to earlier clients on busy print servers when a significant delay might occur between the time a client sends a document and the time the document reaches the head of the queue and actually prints. However, on less busy print servers or for users who need to print frequently, this feature can be annoying. If this situation occurs for users, you can turn off the option to eliminate the problem.

Windows makes the job of managing printers easy and flexible. You can manage printers from virtually any Windows computer using the standard Windows print queue, you can use a Web browser interface, or you can use the Windows Small Business Server 2003 command-line interface.

You can manage printers shared by a Windows Small Business Server 2003 computer using any machine running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 (including the Windows Small Business Server computer, of course). To manage printers from within Windows, double-click a printer in the Printers And Faxes folder to view and manage the print queue, as shown in Figure 11-12. Tip

4. Click the Add button. The Add a Contact Wizard appears:

To open the Printers And Faxes folder using an account with Administrator privileges without logging off and then logging on again, launch Windows Explorer using the Run As command, display the Address Bar if it s not already present, type Control Panel in the Address Bar, and then double-click Printers And Faxes. You can manage the print queue using the following simple processes:

period, right-click the print job, choose Properties from the shortcut menu, select the Only From option, and choose the time range to allow the document to print. This feature is useful when you want to set a large document to print only during a time when you anticipate the printer to be free. Note Sometimes a print job appears stuck in the queue and cannot be deleted. Try turning the printer off and then on again, or stop the Print Spooler service on the print server and restart it. See the Deleting Stuck Documents section of this chapter for more information.
